Saga Cruises

'Cruise Circle says...'

If you’re looking for a luxury, boutique cruise experience on a smaller, friendly ship, Saga Cruises could be perfect for you. Their beautiful sister ships, Spirit of Discovery and Spirit of Adventure (launched in summer 2020) offer British-style cruising to a wide range of destinations across the world. Expect to find a luxurious, intimate atmosphere on their smaller ships, a private balcony for every guest and a sense of style and high-quality service to rival the finest hotels.

Start your holiday in style and from your doorstep; take advantage of a complimentary return chauffeur service to port for journeys of up to 250 miles included in every booking. Whichever ship you choose, you’ll find many of the high-end touches found on much larger cruise ships, but all-the-while retaining that small-ship appeal that makes these ships truly special. From their sleek and sophisticated exterior, delve inside and you’ll find state-of-the-art facilities including five world-class restaurants (all included in the fare), a spa to indulge in some quality ‘me-time,’ an impressive theatre to escape to and a gorgeous wooden wraparound deck to enjoy those endless sea views. Explore further and you’ll discover plenty of elegant lounges and stylish bars to enjoy live music, plus many cosy corners and comfortable spaces to read a book or chat with friends, old and new.

In 2019 they launched Explore Ashore, a service that allows you to explore, discover and tailor your holiday exactly as you want it. Led by a team of destination experts on every cruise, they can help with everything from choosing and booking shore excursions to finding the best beach or getting reservations at a top restaurant.

Saga Cruises focus heavily on value and include as much as possible in the price. In addition, you may some additional treats and services to help you relax and feel truly pampered from the very moment you leave home. To celebrate the launch of their new ships, Saga Cruises have made them all-inclusive from 2020. Luxury cruising has never been such good value.

Every Saga boutique cruise includes…

  • A return chauffeur service up to 250 miles from the port
  • Every cabin has a balcony
  • Speciality dining in a choice of restaurants
  • Unlimited drinks# on all Spirit of Discovery and Spirit of Adventure
  • #Beers, spirits, cocktails & soft drinks + selected wines with lunch & dinner
  • 24-hour room service, all onboard gratuities & free Wi-Fi, porterage at the port and more
  • Adults-only onboard – for guests aged 50 & above (travel companion in same cabin can be aged 40 & above)

The Club by Jools Holland

Jools Holland will be the face of an exciting new venue aboard Spirit of Discovery. Jools and his band will be playing live on several cruises. Recalling the famous music lounges of the 1950s, The Club by Jools will combine sumptuous cocktails and dining with live music. The cuisine will rival the world’s best supper clubs, with classic starters such as Cornish Crab Cakes and Baked Four Onion Soup. Among the sumptuous mains, you can look forward to Grilled Half Lobster, Surf n Turf Fillet and Grilled Dover Sole with Braised Young Leek and Artichoke. As with all the restaurants aboard Spirit of Discovery, dining in The Club by Jools is included in your fare.

Your boutique bedroom at sea

At the heart of every luxury boutique hotel are the bedrooms: your own haven to relax while enjoying your own personal space. And with an average floor plan of 215 square feet as standard, there’s quite a bit of space to enjoy.

Taking their design cues from some of London’s top hotels, each cabin has been styled to showcase the best in contemporary, yet classic British design. Best of all, every cabin has a balcony, giving you your own outside space too. Plus, there are over 100 cabins for solo travellers.

Who goes on Saga Cruises cruise ships?
Saga firmly targets over-50 cruisers, although a companion can travel if they're over 40. In reality, most passengers are retired and over 65 and almost all are British, with a smattering of North Americans and Australians who enjoy the vibe of a ship geared to British tastes. Saga is especially friendly to solo travelers, with around 20 percent of accommodations dedicated to singles. Expect fellow travelers to be relatively well-heeled (this is a high-end cruise) and to have a sense of curiosity and an interest in good food, culture and the arts.
Do I have to dress up on a Saga Cruises cruise?
Yes. There are one to two formal nights on every seven-night voyage, and dressing for dinner on these is one of the reasons people book. Expect long dresses and lots of sparkle for ladies and tuxedo with bow tie for men -- although a dark suit with tie is acceptable. On other nights, the dress code is elegant casual, with no jacket and tie required but an expectation that people will make an effort in the evenings.
Is everything free on Saga Cruises cruises?
No, but a lot is. Crew tips, all specialty dining, Wi-Fi, a selection of wines with meals, a chauffeur service to the port, classes in the gym, specialty coffee and shuttle buses in port are included. What you will pay extra for are bar drinks, shore excursions, spa treatments and retail shop purchases.
What are Saga Cruises's most popular activities?
Daytimes on a Saga cruise are spent by the Lido pool, or curled up with a book in the library, which has more than 3,500 volumes. There's also a popular arts and crafts room, and lectures, musical recitals and dance classes in the Britannia Lounge always draw a crowd. In the evenings, cruisers enjoy live music all around the ship and ballroom dancing in the Britannia Lounge, with gentleman dance hosts to escort single ladies. An extensive range of excursions is offered at reasonable prices, and when the ship is in port, you'll find most passengers partaking in these.
