What to Pack for Warm Weather Cruises

One of the most popular questions we are asked by first-time cruisers is what to pack. Whilst the list is largely similar regardless of destination, there are certain items that are particularly useful to take when you’re cruising in warm weather. Here’s what we’d recommend.
Travel insurance & documents
When booking travel insurance, be sure to state you are travelling on a cruise, as not all policies automatically include cruise cover. You're more likely to do watersports in warm countries, so make sure these are covered too.
Sunscreen
Sun at sea is far more intense than it is on land as the ship is surrounded by a big reflective surface. Don’t scrimp on sunscreen and don’t forget a lip balm with high SPF.
Cruise approved surge-protected power strip
Cruise ship cabins don’t often have a lot of plug sockets. These days, with phones, iPads, Kindles, Go-Pros etc., it can get tricky, especially for those travelling as a family. Investing in a power strip will ensure you’re fully charged throughout your holiday and are able to take plenty of photos of those white-sand beaches to make everyone at home jealous.
Jacket / shawl for evenings
When the sun goes down it can be quite chilly at sea, so make sure you have something to keep you warm when the temperature drops.
Hat
Keep that Caribbean heat off your head!
Footwear
If hikes through rainforests are on the itinerary, make sure the right footwear has been packed. Trying to climb a cliff in sliders or flip-flops is not safe. We'd suggest something for the pool, something to adventure in, something smart and something casual and if you plan on heading into the sea, water shoes are a good idea too.
Medication
Not just prescription medication, but a small first-aid kit with things like plasters, wipes, pain killers, anti-histamines and even sea sickness medication. It’s always better to have them and not need it than be caught short. Add insect repellent to this list, too!
Cabin alarm clock
If that balmy heat has you craving a siesta and you want to make sure you make it to dinner, then a portable alarm clock can be great idea, as it saves your phone battery.
Hanging travel organiser
These can be handy for toiletries and other items as a great space-saving tool. With suncream, after-sun and all the other warm-weather supplies, you are going to need somewhere to store them.
Waterproof bag or Drybag
Handy for throwing all of your items into when heading to the pool deck or off on an excursion.
